Program Summary: The Estes' saga is a true American story. The family history dates back
to the 1600s immigrating from England. One man, looking to feed his family, created a small
business. That small business, launched in 1847 at Port Kent, scratched and clawed its way
from survival to success. Six generations of manufacturing excellence later, Elihu B. Estes's
small dream has risen to national prominence serving multiple industries and has earned
the title "leaders in color." Doug Estes will intertwine family and company history through
the years and generations, to the present day.
Guest Speaker: Doug Estes was raised in Glen Ridge, NJ & graduated from RPI in 1985,
joining the family business the same year. He's the Great-great-great grandson of Benjamin
Hall Estes, & great-great grandson of Elihu Beech Estes, founder of E. B. Estes and Sons,
which was renamed Clifford W. Estes Co. in the mid-20th Century. Doug is the 5th generation
to run the company. Now all four of his children work at the company, representing the 6th
generation!
