Women’s Equality Day –
A Jury of Your Peers
Press Release – July 30 2025
Women's Equality Day
August 26th, 1 pm
Kent-Delord House Museum
17 Cumberland Avenue, Plattsburgh
The Commemoration of Women's Equality Day in Clinton County is a collaborative celebration sponsored by seven groups - the League of Women Voters of the North Country, the Clinton County Historical Association, the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association, the Champlain Valley Business and Professional Women, the Kent-Delord House Museum, the Saranac Chapter of the DAR, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society Psi Chapter. This event commemorates the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920 which ensured that no one was barred from voting due to their gender. We know this meant white women and black women but not Native American women, women who had married non-US citizens and Asian women. That would come later. Nonetheless, August 26th, 1920, was the finish of a 72 year battle for women as a gender, nationwide, to get the right to vote. We use this day to thank and recognize the many women who fought for this right, share some of the history that followed, and discuss some current issues we need to be aware of.
This year we are commemorating Women's Equality Day at the Kent-Delord House Museum at 1 pm. Our history update will be on the struggle for women to get the right to serve on a jury. Our current issues will be some the League is working on. Additionally we will hear the events and activities that each of our collaborating organizations have planned, and all attending will have an opportunity to find out more information on each.
Refreshments will be served. The public is encouraged to attend.
